What can I do to my rusty old gold furniture?

I have a gold, colonial-looking dresser, bed and side table and I'm a teenager! )): It was a hand-me-down from my parents and they don't want to let go of it cos it was a present during their marriage. My room is kind of shabby chic, like white and abit of pink all over, pics of Audrey Hepburn/me framed on the walls and paris stuff-like a mini Eiffel tower and things like that. What can I do to make my ugh furniture fit in/look better? Thanks so so so much!
