Who are some modern composers, such as Bill Evans?

I enjoy listening to piano pieces, Bill Evans is a favorite of mine. Unfortunately I don't know too many composers or pieces that are solo piano, or have very dominant piano, except for clical music. I'm looking for things more modern than clical, closer to jazz, but without all the shrieking saxes.
